FAW Grassroots Courses: Covid-19 FAQs

I have booked on a Level 1 course during the suspension period, what happens next?

All in-person courses have been suspended. Everyone due to attend a course between the 30 April and 3 July will be contacted individually by the coach education team and offered an alternative solution. Alternative delivery methods have been made available, where viable, during this period.

What Level 1 courses have alternative delivery methods during this period?

To support grassroots coaches, we have developed an online version of the FAW Football Leaders Award. The award is available for all to access and covers the same pre-learning and practical content as our traditional Football Leaders Award, from the comfort of your own home.  There is no requirement to complete a practical day.

Completing this course will provide you with a Football Leaders Award and will be accepted for FAW Club Accreditation purposes and as a pre-requisite for the FAW C Certificate.

I would prefer to complete the Football Leaders Award in person. Can I do that?

Yes. As soon as it is safe to do so all our Football Leaders courses will continue in the normal format of online modules and x1 practical day.  We can transfer your booking to a course later in the year.

How can I complete the FAW Goalkeepers Award?

You can sign up to a Goalkeepers course via www.fawcourses.com. Once registered you will have access to the five online modules that can be completed in advance of the practical day completion.

I need to complete a FAW First Aid Award, how can I do this?

Unfortunately, due to the practical nature and assessment required for this Award, candidates will need to attend in person. Therefore, all courses due to be held within the suspension period will be rearranged as a priority.  Certificate extensions will be provided, please refer to the revalidation section.

I have completed the relevant Level 1 Courses and would like to progress through the Coach Education Pathway to complete the next level. Is that possible now?

Our Level 2 (C Certificate) courses are staggered to start in July, August and September. All are available via www.fawcourses.com We will follow the relevant guidance to ensure it is safe to run these courses, prior to them commencing.

I am currently in the process of completing my FAW C Certificate what happens during the suspension period?

All coaches currently attending the C Certificate courses, will be contacted individually with next steps to ensure completion at the earliest opportunity. In the meantime, the remaining online modules have been released to allow coaches early access to complete the distance learning.

I have applied for the forthcoming FAW C Certificate Intensive due to take place in June; will this be postponed or cancelled?

The intensive course planned for June will unfortunately be cancelled for 2020. All coaches that have applied for the intensive course will be contacted individually and offered a new date after the 1st May.

Our priority is to ensure all FAW educated coaches have a valid qualification to allow them to get straight back to coaching as soon as safe to do so. As you are aware, our Grassroots Certificates have a three-year validity period and expire on the 31 December. Coaches are asked to complete the following continuous personal/ professional Development (CPD) to keep the respective qualification valid.

1) I now have less time to complete the relevant CPD required to revalidate my qualification, how will I complete the hours?

We want to give our coaches and volunteers adequate time to attend the required CPD Hours to revalidate qualifications. Therefore, we have applied the following certificate extensions.

2) What FAW courses does this extension apply to?

  • Football Leaders Award

  • Goalkeepers Award

  • First Aid Award

  • Safeguarding Award

  • C Certificate

  • C Certificate Coaching Goalkeepers

  • B Licence Coaching Goalkeepers

3) Why have the Expiry Dates changed from December to May on our FAW Certificates?

We recently introduced the new 31 May certificate expiry to support the alignment of Club Accreditation and Coach registration via COMET.

All club accreditation information will be captured via the COMET system’s club accreditation application.

All coaches, staff and officials will need to be registered on the COMET system to support their club’s accreditation application.

Coaches will need to support their club with qualification information to be successfully registered on the system.

4) How/ When will I receive my revalidated Certificate?

All certificates will be automatically updated via your FAW courses profile on www.fawcourses.com. These will change prior to your current certificate expiring.

The certificate will be available to download and can be used for Club Accreditation and Comet Registration.
