Hundreds of Girls across Wales Inspired by Huddle Unite Festivals
As the Women’s Euro 2022 tournament inspires girls everywhere, more than 500 young female footballers enjoyed our Huddle Unite festivals, held across Wales.
While attendance records were being smashed at the summer showpiece, we were busy working with Mon Actif (Anglesey), Byw’n Iach (Gwynedd), Aura Leisure (Flintshire), Sport RCT (Rhondda Cynon Taf), Active Wrexham & Wrexham AFC Community Trust (Wrexham) and Denbighshire Leisure (Denbighshire) to make sure primary school age girls, across Wales, had the opportunity to join in the fun.
During the FIFA funded festivals, more than 500 girls, aged 5-11, enjoyed learning basic football and fundamental movement skills together, through a number of fun, imaginative football-based activities.
With the majority of the girls in attendance being new to football, they had plenty of opportunity to have fun, make friends and play football, in addition to taking home goodies and information of their local girls football opportunities.
FAW Football Development Manager Bethan Wooley said: “It has been amazing to see so many girls enjoying football for the very first time this week. I’m so jealous of the opportunities the girls have across Wales now to get involved in football! It’s been incredible to be a part of these amazing festivals, and see how the game goes from strength to strength”
Wales now has 63 Huddle centres, so there’s sure to be one near you.

In addition to the four festivals, Denbighshire Leisure held a UEFA Disney Playmakers roadshow, where they delivered UEFA Disney Playmakers sessions to five primary school groups.
For primary schools looking to increase girls’ only football opportunities as extra-curricular activity, take a look at the UEFA Disney Playmakers programme, open to all primary schools across Wales.
During the week over 40 female volunteers supported and delivered. With over 15 girls supporting from local secondary schools.
