Disability Sport Wales Insport Club Programme

The Disability Sport Wales Insport Club Programme is supporting you and your club to become more inclusive, a club for all.

Overview

The FAW Trust has a vision to support grassroots clubs to develop inclusive environments. With the help of Disability Sport Wales (DSW) grassroots football clubs will be guided through the insport club programme, to help develop their provision for all, providing the best opportunities for those players with a disability to take part in football locally.

What is the insport club programme?

• The insport Club programme aims to support clubs in developing their provision so that it includes people with a disability.

• DSW have therefore developed a Toolkit which is intended to support the development of inclusive thinking, planning, development and delivery by the club so that ultimately, they could deliver across the spectrum to disabled and non-disabled people, potentially in a range of different formats.

• The programme consists of 4 incremental standards (Ribbon, Bronze, Silver and Gold), against which a series of aims have been identified.

Why get involved with the insport club programme?

This case study, from Brickfield Rangers, in Wrexham, explains how the programme can be so valuable for clubs, across Wales...

In 2017 we first explored the Disability Sport Wales (DSW), insport club programme as a way to help guide and support our desires to offer disability football at our club.

It helped us to have a clear vision and create an action, which ensured that we had the right structure and support around the disability section to enable it to grow and develop.

Over the years we have received fantastic support from the FAW Trust and DSW.

Between the two organisation they have helped us link in with the local SEN school, supported with the education and development of our coaches and notified us of funding avenues we could explore to support this area of the game. We currently have 3 disability sections; U12s, U16s and Adults, with players having represented the club both locally and nationally which we are extremely proud of.
