North Wales Coast FA School of the Year, Ysgol Y Parc near Bala, had a celebration at the school on the final day of term. It was an emotional day as the school also closed its doors for the final time and it will amalgamate with Ysgol OM Edwards in Llanuwchllyn in September.

The whole village was in attendance with pupils from the past sharing stories of their school days. The children also sang songs and had created funny videos which were also shown to the audience. There was also a hog roast and ice cream van just for the children. During the day North Wales Coast Club Development Officer, Guy Handscombe thanked the staff and children for all their hard work and effort and said a few words to the audience to explain what a fantastic achievement winning the award is.

”Winning this award has given the area of Parc a massive boost. This award shows that even though the school has not got the facilities of others or a large pool of children, it has gone out of its way to provide the same amount of opportunities within a football environment as much as any other school. Many of the children never had the chance to play football before, but the school has supported all activities that were provided. This has also meant that girls and boys have progressed into local clubs and also academy structures”

Head Teacher Rhian Dafydd said ”We are very pleased in Parc to win this award. In such hard times it is a joy that somebody realised what the school meant to the community. We are lucky that the parents give 100%support in all the activities. I would like to thank Guy for his work and for realising the potential within the school in developing the progression from fun football. This award shows that where there is a will, even with the lack of facilities you can succeed”
