Welsh Refugee Futsal League

Providing Opportunities for all the Welsh Football Family

Providing Opportunities for all the Welsh Football Family

Wales hosts its first ever UEFA Futsal Cup preliminary round competition next week in the Cardiff. To highlight this initiative the Welsh Football Trust has developed a Futsal League for the refugee communities of the city. The affiliated league kicks off this Saturday 24th of August with 6 teams from 6 different nationalities which include Congolese, Sudanese, Zimbabwean, Kurdish, Nigerians and Eritreans.

The league is set up as part of the Welsh Football Trust Black and Ethnic Minority Inclusion Programme and most importantly as an opportunity for refugee players to play futsal for the first time.

The league kick offs at 1pm at the Cardiff City House of Sport and all teams are relishing the competition.

Teams will play every Saturday for 5 weeks till the end of September, then complete another set of 5 week fixtures from 1st of February 2014.

From the project we have 3 BME candidates registered to attend the futsal referee course in September and a handful of coaches who have shown interest to attend the ‘Introduction to Futsal’ coaching course.
