As this season's Welsh Community Grassroots Awards 2014 window is coming to a close, the 2013 National School of the Year, St.Christopher's SEN School in Wrexham continues to excel and support many playing opportunities for their local community and students.

St.Christopher's is a community focused school which values the links with its local community, schools, business and the general public. They have an excellent reputation in the field of environmental education, working with and specifically supporting many local, regional and national football events with several of their pupils currently involved in our National LD Player Pathway.

On Wednesday April 30th, local Welsh Football Trust Officer Mark Roberts was invited into the school to launch the school's new Community Football Programme which will see over 100 pupils gain weekly age specific and appropriate coaching by newly qualified sports staff within the school, providing a playing platform and environment to participate within an in-house 'Mini-Football World-Cup, leading up to the launch of the main competition in Brazil.

Mark Roberts adds, "The school continues to push boundaries and support opportunities for it's pupils. This event will see new playing opportunities for it's students and raise participation within our local region. The partnership work between the Welsh Football Trust, Sport Wales 5x60 Programme and the school itself, has ensured a well structured environment which can support local pupils and provide several further playing opportunities if the children desire."

The school's decision to launch the event this week was to coincide with Saturday's FAW Welsh Cup Final between Aberystwyth and TNS in the Wrexham and local region. "The school's decision to launch its internal event this week was to coincide with our own FAW Welsh Cup Final on Saturday. This has been a great opportunity to raise the profile of both events and ensure local pupils get a taste of our national competition."
