Wales manager Ryan Giggs opens Anglesey's first full-size 3G pitch

Ryan Giggs and Osian Roberts received a very warm welcome indeed as they officially opened Anglesey’s first full-size 3G pitch in Llangefni on Thursday afternoon, much to the surprise of the many young footballers in attendance.

Isle of Anglesey County Council’s new 3G pitch opened officially with a secondary school tournament involving boys and girls teams from the island’s five high schools, and training for pupils at Llangefni’s Canolfan Addysg y Bont.

Midway through the morning’s excellent action, Giggs and Roberts arrived to much fanfare from all in attendance, with the youngsters clearly inspired by both taking the time to visit them, before both presented medals to the day’s winning teams.

Speaking of the benefits this excellent new facility will bring to the youngsters of Anglesey, Wales manager Giggs said:

“It will be hugely beneficial to these youngsters, we’ve seen that today how much these children have enjoyed using this new facility. The whole island can enjoy it, and to have facilities like this it just means that you can play football every day, every night, all year round – it is so valuable.”

“If you want to go out and practice, which you have to do if you want to become a professional footballer, then facilities like this are great, but whether that’s what you want to do or whether you just want to have fun, be healthy, be active, having facilities like this in the area are great!

“I only wish I had something like this when I was a young player. The game today were great, especially to see the girls getting involved – the game is hugely popular in Wales now for girls, and the more that boys and girls get involved and get inspired by facilities like this, it can only be good.”

Having grown up on Anglesey and not far away at all from where this new 3G pitch is located, FAW Trust Technical Director and Wales Assistant Manager Osian Roberts was clearly buoyed to be back in his local area and opening what is sure to be a vitally important local facility.

“It is a huge pleasure to be here, I spent my childhood on the island in a village called Bodffordd just outside of Llangefni, and it is really nice now to have facilities like this on the island that give such excellent opportunities to everyone on the island.

“When I started working as a Football Development Officer in 1991, grass pitches were everywhere of course, but since then these artificial pitches have improved so much and it’s not too dissimilar to grass these days.

“It is great to have a facility like this in the middle of the island, accessible to everyone, a facility for everyone to enjoy, and it is so important to the island that these opportunities are being given to young people to succeed and enjoy being fit, active and healthy.”

Cafwyd Ryan Giggs ac Osian Roberts croeso cynnes iawn gan wrth agor cae 3G cyntaf Ynys Môn yn swyddogol yn Llangefni ar brynhawn Iau, i syndod y nifer o bêl-droedwyr ifanc oedd yn bresennol.

Agorwyd cae newydd 3G Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn yn swyddogol gyda thwrnamaint ysgol uwchradd yn cynnwys timau bechgyn a genod o bum ysgol uwchradd yr ynys, a hyfforddiant i ddisgyblion o Ganolfan Addysg y Bont Llangefni.

Hanner ffordd trwy ddigwyddiadau gwych y bore, cyrhaeddodd Giggs a Roberts i lawer o gyffro gan bawb a oedd yn bresennol, gyda'r bobl ifanc yn cael eu hysbrydoli'n glir gan y ddwy yn cymryd yr amser i ymweld â nhw cyn cyflwyno medalau i dimau buddugol y dydd.

Wrth siarad am y manteision bydd y cyfleuster newydd gwych hwn yn dod â phobl ifanc Ynys Môn, meddai rheolwr Cymru, Giggs:

"Bydd yn fuddiol iawn i'r bobl ifanc yma, rydym wedi gweld heddiw faint o blant sydd wedi mwynhau defnyddio'r cyfleuster newydd hwn. Gall yr ynys gyfan ei fwynhau, ac i gael cyfleusterau fel hyn, mae'n golygu y gallwch chi chwarae pêl-droed bob dydd, bob nos, trwy gydol y flwyddyn - mae'n werthfawr iawn."

"Os ydych chi eisiau mynd allan ac ymarfer, ac mae'n rhaid i chi ei wneud os ydych am ddod yn bêl-droediwr proffesiynol, yna mae cyfleusterau fel hyn yn wych, ond p'un ai dyna'r hyn yr hoffech ei wneud neu os rydych dim ond eisio cael hwyl, bod yn iach, bod yn weithgar, mae cael cyfleusterau fel hyn yn yr ardal yn wych!

"Faswn i wedi hoffi rhywbeth tebyg i mi pan oeddwn i'n chwaraewr ifanc. Roedd y gemau heddiw yn wych, yn enwedig i weld y merched yn cymryd rhan - mae'r gêm yn hynod o boblogaidd yng Nghymru nawr ar gyfer merched, a'r mwyaf y mae bechgyn a merched yn cymryd rhan ac yn cael eu hysbrydoli gan gyfleusterau fel hyn, gall hynny fod yn dda yn unig."

Wedi tyfu i fyny ar Ynys Môn ac nid ymhell i ffwrdd o ble mae'r cae 3G newydd hon wedi ei leoli, roedd Cyfarwyddwr Technegol Ymddiriedolaeth y Gymdeithas Bêl-droed Cymru a Rheolwr Cynorthwyol Cymru Osian Roberts yn amlwg yn hapus iawn i fod yn ôl yn ei ardal leol ac yn agor yr hyn sy'n sicr o fod yn cyfleuster hollbwysig lleol.

"Mae'n bleser mawr fod yma, treuliais fy mhlentyndod ar yr ynys mewn pentref o'r enw Bodffordd ychydig y tu allan i Langefni, ac mae'n braf iawn nawr fod gennym gyfleusterau fel hyn ar yr ynys sy'n rhoi cyfleoedd mor ardderchog i bawb.

"Pan ddechreuais i weithio fel Swyddog Datblygu Pêl-droed ym 1991, roedd caeau glaswellt ym mhobman wrth gwrs, ond ers hynny mae'r caeau artiffisial hyn wedi gwella cymaint ac nid yw'n rhy annhebyg i laswellt y dyddiau hyn.

"Mae'n wych cael cyfleuster fel hyn yng nghanol yr ynys, sydd ar gael i bawb, cyfleuster i bawb ei fwynhau, ac mae'n bwysig i'r ynys fod y cyfleoedd hyn yn cael eu rhoi i bobl ifanc i lwyddo a mwynhau bod yn ffit, egnïol ac iach."
