Summer has started so it's time to play football
A small West Wales football club has been ‘overwhelmed’ by the interest created by its annual schools’ recruitment day.
Trostre United held their football festival on Friday, July 1, and welcomed boys and girls from 11 primary schools around Carmarthenshire.
The club were delighted by the turnout, which saw 22 teams face off in the free event, designed to recruit players for the Llanelli based club’s junior teams.
A club spokesman said: “We were overwhelmed with how many children from these schools were not part of a local team and how many of them were interested in joining up.
“We had people phoning up saying they didn't even know the ground existed.
“We have signed up seven players already and we’re still getting phone calls.
“We have had to direct some, who we did not have an age group for, to other teams in the area.
“This was a very successful event not just for the club but for football.
“All the school headmasters rang us on Monday to congratulate us on a great festival and they said how much the children looked forward to it and how much they enjoyed it.
“We will definitely be doing it again next year.”
