Network FARE Inclusion Futsal Tournament

On Thursday 23 October over 70 players of various different nationalities came together in Newport to participate in a Futsal tournament which was part of the FARE network (Football Against Racism Europe network) action week ‘Football People’. The event was coordinated by the Zimbabwe Newport Volunteering organisation and supported by the Welsh Football Trust, Street Games and Newport City Council Sport Development.

The ‘Football People’ week challenges discrimination and celebrates the contribution we all make to football, wherever we live, whatever our connection to the game and whatever our background. A key part of the activities are the events that further social inclusion by bringing people of different communities together through sport. <1r>

All players who took part in the tournament had T-shirts sponsored by Street Games, the winners and runners-up Welsh Football Trust ‘project futsal’ tracksuits and polo shirts.

As part of further development players who took part at the tournament were invited to the regular turn up and play sessions that are running in Newport by the newly developed multicultural football team the Newport Warriors, players will have the opportunity to take part on a weekly basis and if wish to; can sign for the club to play mainstream football in the Newport and District Football League.
