CEO Neil Ward to leave FAW Trust

FAW Chief Executive Neil Ward, has informed the Board, staff and stakeholders of his decision to leave to accept a new position as Director of Technical Operations at the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF) in mid February.

Head of Football Development, Caroline Spanton, has been appointed interim Chief Executive for the time it will take to appoint a successor.

Neil joined the FAW Trust in 2000 and was promoted to Chief Executive in 2007, leading the organisation through a period of exceptional success.

He said: “It will be a huge wrench to leave the Trust and a job that I have enjoyed so much. However, the new role presents an exciting professional and personal opportunity.

I would like to thank our Chair, Peter Lee, for his valuable and important support during the many years we have worked together, as well as Trustees past and present who have contributed so much to the Trust’s success. It has been a pleasure to have worked with so many committed and talented staff over the years as well the passionate army of coaches and volunteers who make Welsh football happen.

I am pleased that I am leaving with the Trust being in good shape for the future”

FAW Trust Chair, Peter Lee, said: “The Trust is very disappointed to be losing Neil but delighted that he has secured such a wonderful new opportunity, one that he thoroughly deserves. Neil has made a huge contribution to the Trust and the development of football throughout Wales for many years. I and the Trust will miss him.

I am pleased, however, that in Caroline Spanton, we have someone who can keep us on course until a replacement for Neil is found.

Caroline Spanton, said: “It has been a pleasure working with Neil and I wish him the very best of luck in his new role. I am proud of the confidence that has been placed in me to take on the leadership of the Trust and will work hard to ensure that all our existing and future work continues seamlessly.”
