Hundreds of excited children queue up to play football at Eisteddfod 2016

The Euro 2016 effect continues as football fever hits The Maes

Eisteddfod 2016 turned into a festival of non-stop football as excited children played game after game on The Maes.

The FAW Trust, in partnership with Newport County in the Community and Monmouthshire Council, hosted an all-day turn-up and play session at the Eisteddfod’s leisure zone.

Hundreds of boys and girls waited patiently for their chance to showcase their skills in our popular inflatable football field.

There was no shortage of endeavour or enthusiasm as hundreds of children of all ages braved the sweltering temperatures to play the game they fell in love with during 2016.

Also Technical Director Osian Roberts joined FAW Head of Public affairs Ian Gwyn Hughes in several sell out Q&A’s around The Maes.

They were given a rousing reception at all of their talks and featured on S4C and BBC.

The two were also guests at the reception of Welsh Government Presiding Officer Elin Jones.
