Girls Festival at Latham Park

FIFA Live Your Goals Festival a Big Success

FIFA's "Love Your Goals" initiative at promoting girls football was on display at Newtown's Latham Park today. With threatening clouds, the organisers were delighted to escape wet weather and the 120 x 10 and 11 year old girls had an excellent away day from schoolwork. With 12 different activities on offer, the girls rotated through every one from measuring the speed of their shots, to football-cricket and zumba sessions, the fun element was a huge success.

Many thanks to the excellent volunteers from the Neath & Port Talbot college at Newtown, to Mums and to the accompanying teachers from the five schools in attendance. Coaching staff from Newtown Football Club, led by the Club's newly appointed Football Community Officer, Kloe Jarvis, organised the day in an effort to help generate new teams in this locality and hopefully feed into the Powys Girls League which is held on the Club's 3G surface on Friday evenings from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Thanks to the schools from Penygloddfa, Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd, Maesyrhandir, Rhiewbechan and Kerry who wore their pink tee shirts with pride and a special word of thanks to Penygloddfa teaching assistant and well known Zumba coach, Katie Liscombe who tirelessly led the Zumba dancing station all morning - phenominal energy levels !

The girls were all presented with free tickets to attend this Sunday's Ladies Welsh Cup Final which is being staged at Newtown for a 2pm KO (17th April). They were also given a certifcate to commemorate their day of fun and were all offered the opportunity to come to the new "Turn up and Play" GIRLS ONLY coaching sessions which are to begin next Wednesday 20th April between 5.30pm and 6.30pm which will run for the next 20 weeks.

Run in conjunction with the Welsh Football Trust, the coaching sessions will be in the control of Kloe Jarvis and will provide the girls with new skills, allow them to meet new people and have fun playing football. The first five sessions are FREE - so come along young ladies, see if you like it, and then it will be just £1 to attend thereafter.
