FAW Trust Club Support Update

Here's the latest support available for our junior football clubs, across Wales. 


43 football clubs have been successful in receiving financial support from the Emergency Relief fund to help cover fixed essential costs during this period.

The fund continues to be open for applications from clubs who have fixed essential costs such as utilities and ground rent or have been impacted by the storms earlier this year. For more information on eligibility criteria and how to apply, click here.

Sport Wales are planning a 2nd phase of financial support for clubs that will be available in the coming weeks specifically looking at what costs will need to be supported in helping clubs return to activity. More information will be released in due course. 


The Welsh Government has announced a £10,000 business support grant for small charities within the retail, leisure and hospitality sector. The new £26 million package will support an additional 2,600 properties with a rateable value of £12,000 or below. This will be particularly relevant for those clubs registered as Community Amateur Sports Clubs or Charitable organisations.

Clubs will need to apply through their local authority if they are eligible for this support. Further information including links to each local authority site and application details can be found here


Welsh Government have announced details of the next phase of the Economic Resilience Fund.

The eligibility checker for new applications will hopefully be open by the middle of June 2020, allowing companies’ time to prepare their applications and Welsh Government expects to open the fund for full applications later in the month. 

This will enable access to the remaining £100 million of the £300 million already approved and allocated to support micro businesses, small and medium enterprises and large businesses.

In terms of eligibility, Phase 2 of the Fund will operate in the same way as Phase 1 but with an update to the micro scheme, which will enable limited companies who are not VAT registered to access the Fund.

Micro businesses employing up to nine employees could be eligible for up to £10k support. Organisations in question:

•       will need to have experienced in excess of a 40% reduction in turnover since 1 March 2020

•       will need to be VAT registered

•       will need to demonstrate that efforts have been made to sustain business activity

•       cannot be pursuing other forms of Welsh Government non-repayable grant funding

•       cannot be entitled to business rate relief grants
