Gibraltar FA Partnership
Football in Wales has been making huge developments this year especially with the changes to the Level One Coaching Awards. It is because of these changes that we can now announce that we have formed a partnership with the Gibraltar Football Association and will be supporting them with their development of grassroots football.
The Gibraltar Football Association are one of the oldest Football Associations to date having formed in 1895. On the 24th May 2013 the Gibraltar Football Association were voted in by the UEFA Congress as the 54th member of the UEFA European Football Family. This meant that teams in Gibraltar could now take part in Europe’s elite competitions. This was a great moment for the Gibraltar Football Association, as ever since Spain placed an embargo on Spanish teams playing in cup competitions, football in Gibraltar has not been getting the world recognition it deserves.
This partnership will help develop coaches in Gibraltar and therefore will be able to provide high standards of coaching to improve players from grassroots level and up. This is done by allowing candidates in Gibraltar access to the FAW courses from a central location in Gibraltar. Not only does this partnership benefit Gibraltar but also promotes how far Football in Wales has come in the previous years as it shows that our work is being recognised internationally.
Here’s what Head of Coach Education at the Welsh Football Trust, Carl Darlington had to say about the partnership. "We are honoured to be approached by The Gibraltar Football Association via UEFA to support their Coach Education system. We are now working together in developing a workforce in Gibraltar of tutors and coaches within grassroots football. "
