Champions League winners to attend FAW National Coaches Conference 2017

As we count down to the big event, here's something not to miss

The FAW National Coaches Conference is being held days before the 2017 Champions League final comes to Wales and several past winners are expected to attend.

With many Champions League winners like Thierry Henry, Marcel Desailly, Ian Rush and Joey Jones among the list of previous attendees, we’re hoping many of them will attend again this year.

As the showpiece final comes to Cardiff in the days following this year’s conference, the interest will be huge and coaches from up and down Wales will have the opportunity to learn from our past champions.

Henry, who won the giant trophy with Barcelona in 1999, has attended our national conference for the last two years. He said: “It is a great opportunity to learn. Coaching is all about preparation and the conference gives coaches the perfect preparation.”

Former AC Milan star Desailly, who won it in Athens in 1994, was also present last year, speaking alongside his World Cup winning teammate in a Q&A during the opening night dinner.

He said: “I experienced some great moments learning to coach in Wales. The conference gives everybody a great opportunity to learn and feed off other great coaches.”

The 2017 conference will be held in Newport, with practical sessions at Dragon Park and theory sessions at the nearby Celtic Manor Resort.

The National Conference 2017 remains a revalidation course for UEFA Pro, A and B Licence holders and will focus on the elite game but it provides the perfect platform for coaches from up and down Wales to learn from the best in the world while developing the ideas of the ‘Welsh Way’ of coaching and playing.
