Successful Love Football Read The Game Launch
Bangor City Community Sports the community partnership between Vi-Ability and Bangor City FC launched its Love Football Read The Game Project with Ysgol Llanbedrgoch on Friday 15th April.
This unique educational project utilises the motivational and inspirational power of football to engage children within the development of their literacy skills. Through providing sport related children's book alongside 1-2-1 reading with our community coaches this project not only enables the children to further develop their reading skills but also inspires and encourages them to have a greater interest in reading in general.
The project will see a 6 week programme of literacy development with Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 delivered. 10 pupils from Years 3 and 4 and 9 pupils from Years 5 and 6 at Ysgol Llanbedrgoch will take part in the project which see's the pupils engage in 1 classroom based literacy session each week along with a fun football session. This further enhances the children's enjoyment of the project alongside improving the health and well-being of the pupils engaging them within a 6 week programme of physical activity too.
Bangor City FC Community Officer Ethan Ray said “It's great to develop a partnership with a new school and launch this through delivering one of our educational projects. After the success of our Turn Up and Play Taster Sessions delivered at the school in partnership with the Welsh Football Trust, the link with the school was established and they asked for us to launch this with our Read The Game literacy scheme. It is a fantastic school to work in partnership with, a great group of pupils who are always keen to participate in the sessions”
