FAW McDonald's Grassroots Football Awards 2021 | Meet our National Winners

Congratulations to every grassroots volunteer who has won a national FAW McDonald's Fun Football award. We appreciate all the work you do and hope it inspires more children and volunteers, across Wales, to get involved in our game.

Community Club of the Year | Aber Valley

99Aber-Valley.jpg

Aber Valley FC are a great example of a club who have connected with their community since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Their valley suffered as badly as any part of Wales, in terms of job losses and they were in the Caerphilly Borough, which was locked down for longer than any other local authority in Wales.

But during that time, a group of hero volunteers emerged out of the valley’s football club to provide hope to struggling families in the form of a boot room and a food bank that ensure no child goes without in their tight-knit community.

Each week donations continue to be received and players from the senior team give up their free time to sort and deliver the parcels to deliver to those in need in their community.

As well as coaching their teams, all the Aber Valley coaches, from under 5 to senior, give up their time to provide an amazing service to those in need in their community.

Mae Clwb Pêl Droed Aber Valley yn enghraifft wych o glwb sydd wedi ffurfio cyswllt cadarn â’i gymuned ers dechrau pandemig Covid-19.

Dioddefodd y cwm cyn waethed ag unrhyw ran o Gymru, o ran colli swyddi ac roeddent ym Mwrdeistref Caerffili, a oedd dan glo am gyfnod hirach nag unrhyw awdurdod lleol arall yng Nghymru.

Ond yn ystod yr amser hwnnw, bu grŵp o wirfoddolwyr arwrol o glwb pêl-droed y cwm yn rhoi gobaith i deuluoedd oedd yn ei chael yn anodd, ar ffurf ystafell gefnogi a banc bwyd i sicrhau nad oedd unrhyw blentyn yn mynd heb ddim yn y gymuned glos yma.

Bob wythnos mae cyfraniadau’n parhau i gael eu derbyn ac mae’r chwaraewyr o’r tîm hŷn yn rhoi o’u hamser rhydd i ddidoli a dosbarthu’r parseli i’r rhai mewn angen yn eu cymuned.

Yn ogystal â hyfforddi eu timau, mae holl hyfforddwyr Aber Valley, o dan 5 i lefel hŷn, yn rhoi o’u hamser i ddarparu gwasanaeth anhygoel i’r rhai mewn angen yn eu cymuned.

Community Coach of the Year | Sonia Fleming, Rhyl Commandos

99Sonia.jpg

Sonia Fleming set-up Rhyl Commandos JFC in memory of her partner Michael Taylor, who was tragically killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2010.

Since then, the club has gone from strength to strength. Currently, their heroic founder coaches two teams and serves as the club secretary.

Sonia created the club with a firm philosophy of inclusivity and insists that all age-groups accept players of all abilities and warmly welcomes any child who makes football their sport of choice.

Throughout lockdown, tireless Sonia kept the club together by hosting weekly zoom fitness sessions and organised fundraising events for charity.

Sefydlodd Sonia Fleming Glwb Pêl Droed Iau Commandos y Rhyl er cof am ei phartner Michael Taylor, a laddwyd yn drasig wrth wasanaethu yn Afghanistan yn 2010.

Ers hynny, mae’r clwb wedi mynd o nerth i nerth. Ar hyn o bryd, mae eu sylfaenydd arwrol yn hyfforddi dau dîm ac yn gwasanaethu fel ysgrifennydd y clwb.

Creodd Sonia y clwb gydag athroniaeth gadarn o gynhwysiant ac mae’n mynnu bod pob grŵp oedran yn derbyn chwaraewyr o bob gallu ac yn croesawu’n gynnes unrhyw blentyn sy’n gwneud pêl-droed yn gamp o’i ddewis.

Drwy gydol y cyfnod clo, daliodd Sonia ati yn ddiflino gyda’r clwb drwy gynnal sesiynau ffitrwydd wythnosol ar zoom a threfnu digwyddiadau odi arian rheolaidd ar gyfer elusen.

Volunteer of the Year | Helen Caswell, RTB Ebbw Vale

99Helen.jpg

Helen has devoted 20 years of her life to her beloved RTB Ebbw Vale FC, working tirelessly for both the junior and senior sections. The NHS Operating Department Practitioner is a committed volunteer, who brings a unique skill set to the table, managing the finances and, at times, using her organisational skills to keep the club afloat.

She is now showcasing her skills as a coach, running the successful girls’ Huddle sessions and, when she’s not doing that, raises money for the club’s junior section by running a ‘tuck shop’ which serves delicious hot dogs and drinks in the newly built pavilion. What is even more remarkable is that all this amazing work is done after she’s completed her shift at the local hospital.

Mae Helen wedi rhoi 20 mlynedd o’i bywyd i Glwb Pêl Droed RTB Glynebwy sydd mor agor at ei chalon, gan weithio’n ddiflino ar ran yr adrannau iau a hŷn.

Mae’r Ymarferydd yn Adran Weithredu’r GIG yn wirfoddolwr ymroddedig sy’n cyfrannu cyfres unigryw o sgiliau, gan reoli’r cyllid ac, ar adegau, defnyddio ei sgiliau trefnu i gadw’r clwb rhag mynd dan y don.

Mae hi bellach yn arddangos ei sgiliau fel hyfforddwr, yn cynnal sesiynau Huddle llwyddiannus i ferched a phan nad yw hi’n gwneud hynny, mae’n codi arian ar gyfer adran iau’r clwb drwy weithredu ‘siop fwyd’ sy’n gweini cŵn poeth blasus a diodydd yn y pafiliwn newydd.

Yr hyn sy’n fwy nodedig fyth yw bod yr holl waith anhygoel yma’n cael ei wneud ar ôl iddi gwblhau ei shifft yn yr ysbyty lleol.

Best Grassroots Football Story | The Boot Room

97Boot.jpg

The Boot Room is an amazing community project that gives every child a chance to play sport by removing the barrier of cost, ensuring that no child goes without boots or kit.

The projects ethos is to inspire children and is built on a simple, but extremely effective idea to recycle worn boots donated by people who no longer need them.

The boots donated are then sent out to those who really need them, allowing more children to enjoy the game we all love.

As we come out of the global pandemic, the army of volunteers behind the amazing project are expanding their services into wider areas to support even more children from all backgrounds and keep inspiring the nation.

Mae The Boot Room yn brosiect cymunedol anhygoel sy’n rhoi cyfle i bob plentyn gymryd rhan mewn chwaraeon drwy gael gwared ar rwystr cost, gan sicrhau nad oes unrhyw blentyn heb esgidiau na chit.

Ethos y prosiect yw ysbrydoli plant ac mae wedi’i adeiladu ar sail syniad syml ond hynod effeithiol i ailgylchu esgidiau wedi’u gwisgo sydd wedi’u cyfrannu gan bobl nad oes arnynt eu hangen mwyach.

Wedyn mae’r esgidiau sy’n cael eu cyfrannu’n cael eu hanfon at y rhai sydd eu gwir angen, gan alluogi i fwy o blant fwynhau’r gêm rydyn ni i gyd yn ei charu.

Wrth i ni ddod allan o’r pandemig bydeang, mae’r fyddin o wirfoddolwyr y tu ôl i’r prosiect anhygoel yma yn ehangu eu gwasanaethau i ardaloedd ehangach i gefnogi mwy fyth o blant o bob cefndir a pharhau i ysbrydoli’r genedl.

Restaurant of the Year | Fabian Way 1082, Swansea

99Fabian-Way.jpg

Swansea’s Fabian Way McDonalds partnered with St Joseph’s U9 football team two years ago. Starting with seven players they now have 34 children making up four teams.

Restaurants Group Supervisor and team coach Steve Tanner is being supported by the store to complete his FAW C Certificate with the 50% scheme. Steve’s colleague Kieran Bumster, also a vital member of the

Welsh football family coaches St Joseph’s U11.

The restaurant has become the teams informal base with children and parents joining the McDonalds litter pick around Swansea Bay after training, with 27 children being treated to happy meals for their efforts.

Without the continued generosity and support from the franchisee the club wouldn’t be able to continue its

development. Having sponsored the kit since the team’s inception, providing training equipment and regularly providing water and fruit for the team and prizes for club raffles.

Fe wnaeth McDonalds Fabian Way, Abertawe weithio mewn partneriaeth â thîm pêl-droed Dan 9 Sant Joseph ddwy flynedd yn ôl. Gan ddechrau gyda saith chwaraewr mae ganddynt bellach 34 o blant yn ffurfio pedwar tîm.

Mae Goruchwylydd y Grŵp o Fwytai a hyfforddwr tîm, Steve Tanner, yn cael cefnogaeth y bwyty i gwblhau Tystysgrif C CBDC gyda’r cynllun 50%. Mae cydweithiwr Steve, Kieran Bumster, hefyd yn aelod hanfodol o hyfforddwyr teulu pêl-droed Cymru yn hyfforddi tîm Dan 11 Sant Joseph.

Mae’r bwyty wedi dod yn ganolfan anffurfiol y timau gyda phlant a rhieni yn ymuno yn sesiwn casglu sbwriel McDonalds o amgylch Bae Abertawe ar ôl hyfforddi, gyda 27 o blant yn cael prydau hapus am eu hymdrechion.

Heb haelioni a chefnogaeth barhaus deiliad y rhyddfraint, ni fyddai’r clwb yn gallu parhau i ddatblygu. Mae wedi noddi’r cit ers sefydlu’r tîm, darparu offer hyfforddi a darparu dŵr a ffrwythau i’r tîm yn rheolaidd, a gwobrau ar gyfer rafflau’r clwb.

Fun Football Provider of the Year | Baglan Boys & Girls Club

99Baglan.jpg

Baglan Boys and Girls Club have been providing a community facility enabling hundreds of young people to play football.

Through their FAW McDonald’s Fun Football sessions, hundreds of girls have had the amazing opportunity to learn the game they love.

The awesome team involved in running these sessions have also given up their time to support the transition of these children into teams for their appropriate age group.

Mae Clwb Bechgyn a Merched Baglan wedi bod yn darparu cyfleuster cymunedol sy’n galluogi cannoedd o bobl ifanc i chwarae pêl-droed.

Drwy eu sesiynau Pêl-droed Hwyliog McDonald’s CBDC, mae cannoedd o ferched wedi cael cyfle anhygoel i ddysgu chwarae’r gêm maen nhw wrth eu bodd â hi.

Mae’r tîm anhygoel sy’n ymwneud â chynnal y sesiynau hyn wedi rhoi o’u hamser hefyd i gefnogi trosglwyddo’r plant yma i dimau ar gyfer eu grŵp oedran priodol.

Rising Star of the Year | Grace Evans

99Grace.jpg

Grace is a very talented 17-year-old, who has come through the junior teams at the club and now plays for the seniors.

To give back to the club, she has set up an entire under 7s girls’ team.

Recruiting and fundraising, she has grown the team to 10 players, with new children

joining regularly, meaning she now has two teams on matchdays.

She has also helped run the recent FAW McDonalds Fun Football sessions and helps

out whenever she can.

The young players she coaches idolise her and see her as a role model.

Her grateful club describe her as an absolute superstar.

Mae Grace yn ferch ifanc 17 oed dalentog iawn, sydd wedi dod trwy’r timau iau yn y clwb ac sydd bellach yn chwarae i’r tîm hŷn.

I roi yn ôl i’r clwb, mae hi wedi sefydlu tîm merched dan 7 oed.

Gan recriwtio a chodi arian, mae hi wedi datblygu’r tîm i gynnwys 10 chwaraewr, gyda phlant newydd yn ymuno’n rheolaidd, sy’n golygu bod ganddi bellach ddau dîm ar ddyddiau gemau. Mae hi hefyd wedi helpu i gynnal sesiynau Pêl-droed Hwyliog diweddar McDonalds CBDC ac mae’n helpu pryd bynnag y gall. Mae’r chwaraewyr ifanc mae’n eu hyfforddi yn ei heilunaddoli ac yn ei gweld fel model rôl.

Mae ei chlwb diolchgar yn ei disgrifio fel seren wych.
