George Street Primary School were last year rewarded with the School of the Year at the 2015 Welsh Community Football Awards presented by McDonald's.
The school is a long serving advocate of football in Torfaen and routinely run after school football clubs. They have strong community links with local football clubs, in particular RACE FC and always ensure that their pupils have ample opportunity to participate in sports activities by taking part in all cluster football tournaments.
George Street attend festivals for girls and boys from year 2 upwards and have links with Newport County in the community who coach every other week including over 100 children in 2015. George Street also run Dragons Multi Skills football sessions and Play to Learn programmes during education time assisting the school to act as a gateway into local teams in the Torfaen Junior Youth League.
Many children have joined along with others becoming involved with other local teams and as a result of children participating in the game George Street have seen big improvements in behaviour, self-confidence, self-esteem and attendance.
